Worked example

A bearing callout, resolved to spec and priced.

A customer runs a conveyor bearing at 400°F in a corrosive wash-down environment and calls it out by the incumbent's part number. Camber resolves the number to its underlying spec, flags that 52100 with nitrile contact seals won't hold at 400°F in wash-down duty, and surfaces the stainless high-temperature alternative for your rep to price.

Industrial gears in a machine

Standard chrome steel (52100) covers most industrial applications, but a high-temperature job calls for M50 tool steel, a corrosive one for 440C stainless, and a job that's both for Cronidur 30 or a ceramic hybrid. Cage material is its own structured field too: steel, brass, phenolic, PEEK, or Vespel, not buried in a description string.

When the stated environment and the called-out material don't agree, Camber flags the conflict and shows the input spec and the resolved alternative side by side, so a rep can verify the logic before it goes on a quote.

A competitor's part number resolves to the same structured spec.

An SKF, NSK, NTN, or Timken part number resolves to bore, OD, width, seal type, and clearance class the same way a raw callout does, then cross-references against your own catalog for an equivalent, with a confidence score on the match.

Clearance class (C2 through C5) and precision grade (ABEC-1 through ABEC-9, or the equivalent ISO P-class) carry through as structured attributes rather than getting collapsed into a single generic "bearing" line.

Both are structured attributes on the same line. A C3 clearance with ABEC-1 precision resolves as two distinct fields, not a single combined code.

Does Camber recommend cage or seal material based on operating environment?

Where the RFQ states an operating condition (temperature, corrosive environment, wash-down duty), Camber surfaces the material and seal implications alongside the resolved spec. Your engineer makes the final call.

What happens with mounted units, like pillow blocks?

Mounted units resolve with their own attribute set (housing style, mounting pattern, insert bearing spec), separate from how a loose bearing is read.
